THESE FALLS ARE SO MAINSTREAM!
Waterfall puns! Oh how I’ve waited to use that one!! Eaton Canyon falls is located in the Altadena Mountains in Pasadena, CA is just a short hike to absolute bliss! Right in the backyard of Los Angeles. A wonderful, dog-friendly trail for Fido too!! Start at the nature center where you will obtain a map of the trailhead and take a peek in the wildlife room while you wait. Inside you will find visual reorientation of all the wildlife that lives in that part of the mountain range, from the tiniest termite to the larger residents such as the brown bear and mountain lion. There is even a few live species on display including the beautiful diamondback rattlesnake. The trail is 3.5 miles roundtrip! Much of the trail is exposed with no shelter so be sure to pack your sunscreen, sunglasses, closed toe shoes for the hike (and flip flops for the nature pool), snacks and lots of water! As you cross under a large cement bridge; this is your marking that you are half a mile to paradise. You will find the beginning of the river; as the temperature instantly becomes cooler and more vegetation becomes a welcome source of shelter from the sun. Follow the stream up through the rocky canyon until you reach the end of the gorge, where you will find the 40 foot waterfall in all its glory! Hiking time: 2 hours
